Viva la Raw Revolution

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Way to go Jet Blue for stocking a huge selection of “Raw Revolution” bars in their terminals! I am a huge Jet Blue fan to begin with but now I am totally head over heels for this hip airline. Traveling and being raw can be the pits sometimes so I was really happy to see a huge selection of these bars, Jet Blue carries all the flavors. Even though the food on the airlines isn’t raw you can at least expect these raw treats to hold you over during your flight if you didn’t bring any munchies.

Raw Revolution bars come in a rainbow of different flavors. There website is pretty cool, the R.E.M intro cracks me up. http://rawindulgence.com/

This may be one small raw step for man but it’s one giant raw step for mankind. Won’t it be great when you can find raw food everywhere? I for one can’t wait!

Speaking if packing raw munchies, I recently had my bag inspected at airport security and the x-ray guy looked at me like I had ten heads when he asked me what the Goji berries were. He probably thinks Goji berries are a made up name, they sound like something Willy Wonka would concoct.

Wild Coconut Currant Cookies

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

I really wanted to call these “Fricken Easy Tasty Cookies” but decided to stick with the exotic wild currant theme. These are fricken easy and tasty, they take about 20 minutes to make from start to finish. They’re a perfect sweet treat when your in a hurry. My five year old nephew helped me make them and as soon as they were made they did a great disappearing act. Abracadabra, down the hatch, Presto cookies be gone!

An Ode to Omar’s

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

If you get a chance to visit my great home state of Utah I encourage you to stop by Omar’s Living Cuisine. It’s one of my favorite raw food restaurants. Omar’s rivals the great raw food hot spots of New York. The food here is consistently delicious and of course nutritious:)

Omar’s Lebanese heritage adds a tasty twist to traditional raw cuisine. I’ve never had anything at Omar’s I didn’t like so my list of favorite dishes could go on forever. When you stop by I recommend the seaweed soup, tabbouleh, raw pasta with fettuccine and marinara sauce, the bean burrito, and of course the Lebanese wraps. Here are some mouth watering pictures of the falafel and Lebanese wraps.

I always leave full so that means I get dessert on the go. These chocolate cups have a creamy coconut center-watch out Almond Joy, your days are numbered. Mwahahaha(that’s my evil laugh.)

P.S. Turns out the raw food world is a small and cozy one. One of m favorite raw food bloggers Courtney Pool used to work in Omar’s restaurant. http://courtneypool.blogspot.com/

ON THE GO RAW

Friday, February 15th, 2008

While out running errands I realized I needed some raw goodness on the go but I left the house with out a snack. I Stopped into a natural foods store and saw these babies.

gorawbarslg.jpg

If you’re like me I hesitate to eat anything that comes in bar form because usually they are pasty, chalky slabs of processed grossness that flat out don’t taste good. Surprisingly the GORAW bars are great! I really dig on the spirulina bar, it looks like a swampy concoction but it’s pleasantly sweet. This bar has bananas, sesame seeds, coconut, dates and of course it packed with dark green spirulina. My advise is to not judge this bar by it’s mean green appearance but give it a try and add one more raw food goodie to your pantry of tricks.

Karolina Kurkova Loves Pure Food and Wine!

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

Love is in the air! I watched Good Day New York this morning and Karolina Kurkova was sharing her tips for a romantic Valentines. To my surprise she suggested raw chocolates and desserts over conventional sweets. Karolina recommended Pure Food and Wines blonde and chocolate macaroons, heart shaped cookies and the tiramisu(which is out of this world.) My favorites P.F.A.W desserts are the chocolate pudding with raspberries and the mallomars. These raw confections are enough to knock any ones socks of this Valentines. Here are a few raw chocolate recipes so you can knock the socks off of someone special too.
